All Saints/St. Vincent Ferrer 4 th Grade Football Team Goes Pink: Raises $2000 for The Wellness Community’s Free Breast Cancer Support Programs

This year, it’s not only NFL teams and players who are helping support Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  The enthusiasm to “go pink” in October has reached some younger football players, too.  In Kenwood, the 4 th grade All Saints/St. Vincent Ferrer Rocks football team raised $2,000 to help fund The Wellness Community’s (TWC) free breast cancer programs and then donned pink socks and pink armbands for their October 11 game where they presented the check to TWC’s Executive Director, Rick Bryan.

The 4 th grade Rocks decided to get involved in Breast Cancer Awareness Month this year to celebrate and support two team moms who are breast cancer survivors, Gina Martini and Carrie Torbeck.   The Wellness Community was selected to receive the funds raised by the team since both women attended various programs at TWC, finding support and helpful information as they worked toward recovery.

The boys worked hard to raise money for the cause.  They set up lemonade stands, held a group car wash at Sports Plus, and individual boys took on additional chores at home to earn money that they could donate.  Donations were also collected at football games.  According to Barbara Buschelmann, who has a son on the team and helped lead the effort, this was the first time a Rocks football team has organized a fundraising effort for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the team hopes to do it again next year, perhaps with the other All Saints/SVF teams in grades 3-8 joining in.

Thank you All Saints/St. Vincent Ferrer Rocks football team!

The Patty Brisben Foundation
Links Baseball, Romance, and Cancer Wellness
Through a $7,800 Donation
to The Wellness Community

Since 2007, the foundation, a non-profit charitable organization established by Pure Romance, Inc. founder and CEO, Patty Brisben, to benefit causes related to women and sexual health, has donated $100 for each Reds victory – totaling $22,400 to date -- to help fund The Wellness Community’s free cancer support programs.

Patty Brisben and Jessica Johnston, Executive Director of the Patty Brisben Foundation, recently presented a check for $7,800 to TWC executive director Rick Bryan and board president Lucy Ward, representing $100 for each of the Reds 2009 wins.

Through the generosity of the Patty Brisben Foundation, the program will continue throughout the 2010 season. Again this year, those listening to the Reds games on 700WLW will hear the donation program announced at least once during every Reds broadcast.

The mission of the Patty Brisben Foundation is to provide education, research and community programming to enhance the quality of information and health services provided to women. These donations to The Wellness Community do just that by helping to fund education and community programming for women affected by cancer in order to help improve their quality of life, as well as intimacy during and after cancer.
