All TWC programs are offered completely
free of charge. The Wellness Community provides
a full range of support services in a safe, supportive home-like
setting. The Wellness Community Programs
include:
Support Groups
Participant Groups:
Ongoing
weekly meetings facilitated by licensed psychotherapists where
people with cancer explore new ways to deal with cancer and
become part of an extended family.
Family Groups:
Ongoing
weekly support groups facilitated by licensed psychotherapists
to help family members or significant others learn how to
care for themselves while supporting the person with cancer.
Networking Groups:
Monthly groups which provide an opportunity for individuals with similar life circusances to discuss
and exchange of information. Breast cancer, ovarian cancer and caring for caregiver groups presently meet on Wednesday evenings.
Education
As the Doctor/Ask the Nurse
Lectures and dialogues presented by authorities in fields of interest to cancer patients.
Participatory
learning opportunities provided by experts on a variety of
topics that are related to reducing stress and fostering hope.
Nutrition:
Nutritionist-led discussions about what foods are best to aid in the fight for recovery.
Healthy Cooking Classes:
Demonstrations on ways to prepare healthy easy to prepare meals .
Stress Management
Relaxation/Visualization:
Regular guided sessions during which participants learn how
to practice important self-help procedures designed to make
them feel more relaxed and comfortable. These could include
yoga, tai chi, meditation techniques, and other helpful methods.
Journaling
Learn the ancient art of journaling. Find inner peace and companionship as you travel through your cancer jorney on the path toward recovery.
Yoga
Participate in a gentle version of Hatha Yoga which provides you with movement, breathing and awareness to promote relaxation and healing.
T'ai Chi
Balance the vital force of the body knows as "chi" by participating in T'ai Chi Chih. "Joy Thru Movement" can be performed by anyone of any ability or age. Some of the reported benefits include stress reduction and greater energy.
Jin Shin Jyutsu
Experience this graceful, noninvasive, traditional touch therapy that advocates simplicity and quietness.
Children's Programs
"Kids Connect/Parents Connect" is a program for children and their parents. It is designed to help children cope with a parent's cancer diagnosis and to help parents develop the skills necessary to talk to their children about their cancer.
Social Events
Gatherings
that bring participants together to laugh and play.
A Resource Library
The Wellness Community center will provide a room equipped with reading materials, audiovisuals, and information regarding community and social services that are pertinent to cancer patients.
