Frankly Speaking About Colorectal Cancer

(Second edition)

The value of emotional support

Research has shown that people who are connected to others have a better quality of life and lower death rate from all causes than the average expected for people in the same age group. Seeking support can diminish feelings of isolation, despair and loss of control and should be as integral to your cancer treatment as surgery or chemotherapy.

People who are able to connect with others in a safe, constructive way report an improvement in their quality of life during cancer and beyond. The Wellness Community offers support groups both in person and online for people living with all types of cancer. See the Resources section for more information and additional support options.
