Frankly Speaking About Colorectal Cancer
(Second edition)
Being Patient Active with colorectal cancer
If you or someone you love has been diagnosed with colorectal cancer, you may be feeling overwhelmed and afraid. Many people who are diagnosed with colorectal cancer are shocked because they know little about the disease and never expected it to happen to them. It can also be embarrassing, because it involves parts of the body and bodily functions that may be difficult to discuss openly.
It’s important to acknowledge your feelings (see Dealing with distress) while learning what you can about the disease and its treatment. This way you and your support network can work with your healthcare team to get the best treatment possible.
The purpose of this guide is to give you the tools and confidence you need to be able to discuss colorectal cancer with your healthcare providers as well as friends and family so you can get the care you need and deserve.
